02-01-08: MilSciFi.com interviews author CJ Henderson, contributor to the upcoming military science fiction
anthology "Warfear".
MilSciFi: "Welcome. What was
your inspiration for your story?
Henderson: "I actually have five stories in "Warfear." Now,
my inspiration for "Glowworm" was easy. I wrote that one with Bruce
Gehweiler, and his draft was the first one. As for "The Best Meal,"
that's a horrors of war story, one meant to show you don't need the
supernatural to have horror in war. In "The Laughing Man," I have
always wanted to do a hero-holds-the-bridge tale. And, I've also always wanted
to do a Twilight Zone story, so "999 Down" was my answer to that.
Lastly, "The Hardest Courage," also done with Bruce, was inspired by
my desire to do a gurrillea war story."
MilSciFi: "Do you have any
future plans for stories set in the same universe?
Henderson: "A sequel to "The Laughing Man" was written for
Inhuman magazine; I can't want to see that story with an AllenK illustration.
"The Best Meal" is one of my Jack Hagee stories, and I have about 30
of those. "The Hardest Courage" is part of Bruce's and my Byanntia
series. In fact, anyone who'd like to see some other tales in that universe can
find four of them at spacewesterns.com. Free reads, gang!"
MilSciFi: "How would you describe
your experience working on the book?"
Henderson: "Not much of an answer, sorry to say. I love turning out
stories, and when an editor tells me he'll take more than one, I just keep
writing!"
MilSciFi: "What are you
working on next?"
Henderson: "Right now I'm working on the first book in a series
for Tor. It's called Brooklyn Knights, and it stars Professor Piers Knight, a
director of the Brooklyn Museum. He's pretty different
from any of my other characters. For one, he's not a hero. I don't mean that
he's Mr. Evil Guy, he's simply a working stiff who works in a place that's
filled with magical artifacts and ... well ... you know ... stuff keeps
happening."
MilSciFi: "Give us the
details on your upcoming author appearances."
